Court Awards Family with V.A Beach ties rare gold coins.

The U.S appeal court on Friday overturned a Jury verdict and awarded a Philadelphia family rights to 10 rare gold coins worth $80 million.

However, the appeals court Friday returned the coins to the Langbords because U.S officials had not responded within the 90 day limit to the families seized property claim, filed in 2004.

Barry Berke, the family lawyer said, “Congress clearly intended for there to be limits on the government’s ability to seek forfeiture of citizens’ property and today’s ruling reaffirms that those limits are real and won’t be excused when the government violates them.”

Joan Langbord who is 85 throughout most of her life worked in her Father’s store throughout most of her life. Her sons David langbord of Virginia Beach and entertainment Lawyer Roy Langbord of New York City, joined her in her 13 year legal fight. Berke said that they have not decided whether the coins will be sold and do not plan to comment on the ruling.

The Double Eagle was designed by famed sculptor August Saint Gaudens with a flying Eagle on one side and a figure representing liberty on the other.

In 2002 a single surviving coin sold for $7.59 million which was a record for the coin. King Farouk of Egypt o… MORE
